A team of 10 men attempting to make the fastest automobile crossing ever in Antarctica has reached the South Pole.
he milestone for the team, which works in partnership with Imperial College London, marks the first time a biofuel vehicle has visited the South Pole.
The Moon Regan Transantarctic Expedition departed Union Glacier on November 26 to begin the nearly 2,000 mile (3,219 km) journey to McMurdo and hopes to complete the continent’s fastest vehicle crossing on record.
Using three vehicles, the team hopes to prove their effectiveness and reliability in the Antarctic terrain, allowing researchers to reduce their future environmental impact by traveling overland.
The majority of travel around Antarctica – usually by researchers and scientists – is currently done using small planes.
