Xiaomi introduced the Redmi 7A. The new low-budget smartphone will be sold in China on June 6 for less than $ 100. At least you get a current Snapdragon processor, a 5.5-inch HD display and a powerful 4000 mAh battery. On the other hand, you have to go without a dual camera and a fingerprint sensor. What the new Redmi 7A has to offer, you'll know it in the following announcement.
Design and display
The Redmi 7A is a device of the lower price range. As a result, the design is rather limited. There are plastic housings with visible edges around the screen. The display has no notch and stands in the 18: 9 format. It has an HD resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels. Since the display measures only 5.45 inches, that's enough for a pixel density of 295ppi. Individual pixels should no longer be recognizable. Of course, a clbadic IPS screen is used.
With a screen size of 5.45 inches, the smartphone is one of the smaller devices. The dimensions are 146 x 70 x 9.5 mm and the smartphone weighs only 165 g despite the large battery. At the back, there is no fingerprint sensor or dual camera to view. As always, however, it includes a dual SIM card, a memory expansion and a headset connection. To unlock, you can use Face-Unlock on the front camera, which replaces the fingerprint sensor at least during the day. Normally, there is also cheap Xiaomi smartphones and a notification LED, but we will only be able to review in the test.
power
The processor takes the cheapest Redmi smartphone in the next step and it is an octa-core used. This is the Snapdragon 439 from the market leader Qualcomm. The processor reaches about 80,000 points in the AnTuTu reference and consists of 8 Cortex A53 cores up to 2.0 GHz. For a device in this price range, it's a pretty decent performance. Compared to its predecessor, the Adreno 505 graphics processor should have become much more powerful, so that even current games can be played with low graphics settings. The processor was introduced only in mid-2018. The cheap device therefore has a current chipset and no obsolete hardware, as is often the case.
In terms of memory, the Redmi 7A will be available in three versions: 2/16 GB, 2/32 GB and 3/32 GB. In principle, we can say that you should only use the 2 GB RAM version if you do not use a lot of apps on your smartphone. If you like a bit on YouTube, in the web browser or Facebook, should buy the 3GB version of RAM.
Camera and battery
The cheapest product in the Redmi range, there remains only one sensor in the front and back. Here is a 13MP sensor and before called a 5MP sensor. The sensor at the back has an f / 2.2 aperture. and is equipped with autofocus PDAF. Videos can be recorded in Full HD with 30FPS. In practice, we will examine how well the camera beats in practice. In principle, one should not expect miracles from a cell phone as cheap.
Where the Redmi 7a has increased significantly compared to its predecessor, the battery is: 4000mAh instead of 3000mAh, it will now measure. If the Redmi 6a has reached a decent score of 8:10 in the PC Mark battery benchmark, the next Redmi budget will clearly exceed this threshold: here too, only a 5.45-inch HD + resolution needs to be used and the Octa Core should be even more effective. The Redmi 7a will easily handle two days with a single charge. The smartphone is charged with a standard 5V / 2A power supply.
connectivity
Regarding connectivity, you get the most important elements included. Bluetooth 4.2 and wifi with standard b / g / n. At the sensor level, there are standards (brightness, approximation, acceleration) and even an electronic compbad has been integrated into the device. An FM radio is also included and, of course, GPS positioning.
Of course, the Redmi 7A is a dual SIM card device. In addition, the cheap smartphone supports LTE technology, which is not obvious in this price range. The following LTE tapes are available for the Chinese version:

As you can see here, the LTE 20 volume, important for Germany, is missing, which will change with the overall version of the Redmi 7A. This is not yet announced, but should not be delayed.

Of course, the Redmi 7A will cost a little more in this country. We estimate that the price in Germany is about 20 € higher than the price in China. By importing via online stores such as Gearbest or Banggood, you can save a few euros, as usual.
Our badessment
The Redmi 7A is very cheap. What Xiaomi delivers to this award is quite remarkable. After all, the smartphone has a current Snapdragon processor and should be nice to use quickly. In addition, the smartphone supports LTE technology and probably has a camera that can be used on board. Xiaomi also offers good display quality in the lowest price range.
However, you must reduce the Redmi 7a. There is therefore no fingerprint sensor for unlocking or a double camera for portraits. Here is the question of whether the savings of 20-30 € compared to the Redmi 7 are really worth it. But if you're looking for a simple device for a beginner on a smartphone, with the Redmi 7A, you'll find the phone that's right for you.
