CRYSTAL PALACE wants to wait for the young Chelsea Reece James, his first choice to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
James, 19, is back in Chelsea after a loan to Wigan and will not be out until the Blues hear about their transfer ban to Fifa.
The right back should be in shape late August after being injured at the ankle with England under-20s.
Palace would lend it or borrow it full time in one of the next two transfer windows.
James was kidnapped on a stretcher while he was playing for England under 20 at the Toulon tournament last month.
There were concerns that the 19-year-old right-back had broken his ankle when he fell in the 37th minute against Chile.
He needed oxygen on the ground, but the sweeps revealed no interruption for the teenager.
James' form at Wigan sparked the interest of several Premier League clubs, with Brighton challenging Palace for his signature.
In March, SunSport also told you how Burnley was keeping a close eye on the backs and trying to get an agreement.
Turf Moor's renowned evaluator, Mike Rigg, identified James as a key target for addressing their problem.
