Regional distribution of Covid-19 cases in Ghana

After a period of steady decline in active cases during the last quarter of 2020, Ghana has since seen a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases after the Christmas season.

According to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), the daily average of new cases in the country is between 600 and 700, or 84.8% of new cases reported.

In its latest report, the GHS says more Ghanaians are succumbing to the deadly virus, increasing the number of active cases of Covid-19 to 6,938.

As of February 9, 10 more people have died from the virus, adding to the death toll of 482.

Meanwhile, Ghana Health Service Director General Dr Patrick Kuma Aboagye, who spoke at a press conference on mitigating the spread of Covid-19 in Ghana, said the region of Greater Accra remains the biggest hotspot for Covid-19 cases recorded across the country.

As it stands, the Greater Accra region has recorded 3506 cases.

The Ashanti region is the second highest with a total number of 1,219 Covid-19 infections.

Meanwhile, the Savannah area has the lowest number of infected cases – a total of 2.

So far, all 16 regions have recorded cases of Covid-19.
