Seven farming communities near Coaltar, in the Ayensuano district, in the East region, have appealed to the Department of feeder roads and the District Assembly to re-gravel the road network in the region.
Communities complained that 22 feeder roads in the region are in poor condition, making travel difficult.
The communities are Abiesikrom, Obowunsu, Tomkrom, Awereso, Bada, Mamakrom and Akotuakrom.
After a meeting with farmers in Abiesikrom, Nana Abiesi Kumi II, Abiesikrom's head informed the Ghana News Agency that the rehabilitation of roads in the region would help communities to easily transport their agricultural products to the marketing centers.
Nana Kumi explained that because of the deplorable roads in the communities, farmers had no choice but to transport their food products, including cocoa, to Marfokrom, about seven kilometers away, before transporting their products to the marketing centers.
Nana Kumi said the rehabilitation of roads would also allow communities to send their patients to clinics and to the nearby hospital.
He said that after a snake bite in the area, the victims were carrying shoulder seven kilometers to get to a Marfokrom clinic, adding that students were also traveling long distances to get to the clinic. # 39; school.
