The Ghana Police Service provided an update on security measures deployed to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic as the nation joined the world to mark the first day of the Easter festivities.

Ahead of the holiday season, police announced the application of certain guidelines which included a ban on public gatherings, among others.

According to the service, “the organization of any carnival, festival, beach rally, street dances, procession, parades and such events will be illegal”,

Informing the public of Friday’s operation, the service’s director of public affairs, Superintendent Sheilla Kessie Abayie-Buckman, said: “There was an intense police deployment to the beaches of Accra on Good Friday as the police enforce Covid-19 protocols on the beach rally. ”

She also noted that “the police deployment covered all beaches including Kokrobitey, La Pleasure beach, Titanic, Bojo, Glefe, Osikan, Sakumomno, Chorkor, Laboma, among others to ensure that the merry makers do not not rush to the beaches in defiance of executive orders. . “

In Weija, for example, the deployment of police personnel began at exactly 5 a.m. in the various resorts from Aplaku to Langma.

Before the deployment, letters were sent to the management of the stations to officially alert them to the exercise of the security agencies.

“So far almost all of the resorts are complying with the exercise which has instructed some of them to fully lock the beach doors to prevent patronage from people,” she said.

“The police patrol to keep vacationers away from the various beaches. There are men waiting for the FPU at Bojo Beach, the mobile patrols underway as well as the foot patrols on the beaches are important. At the moment there are positive signs of compliance and the region is relatively calm, ”she added.
