The First Lady, Ms. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, says she cannot accept the emoluments approved by Parliament.

It has decided to reimburse the State for all sums paid to it since 2017, which amount to GHS 899,097.84.

This was captured in a statement signed by Korkor Bleboo, director of communications in the office of the First Lady.

“The First Lady in consultation with the President of the Republic has decided to reimburse all the sums paid to her as compensation from the date of entry into office of the President, that is to say from January 2017 to date, for an amount of GHS 899,097.84. ”

“The First Lady also decided not to accept that the sums allocated to her be paid to her in accordance with the recommendations of the Ntiamoa-Baidu committee, as approved by Parliament. It does so as a purely personal decision, without prejudice to the rights of others, and so as not to undermine the regularity of the process undertaken by Parliament. ”

In the statement, Ms Akufo-Addo’s communications director argued that the First Lady had not requested any compensation and “she only received what existed and was related to her status, although informally “.

According to the statement, the president’s wife made the decision because the discussions which welcomed the announcement of the payment of allowances were interspersed with extremely negative opinions, which she finds unpleasant because such comments only seek “Present her as a venal, selfish, egocentric woman who does not care about the plight of the ordinary Ghanaian.
