Since the announcement of some five doctors refusing assignments in the North-East region, the regional minister, Yidana Zakaria, has declared herself very concerned about the situation, especially since only one of them has come to do the tour of health establishments but never returned.

According to the minister, none of the other doctors have even visited the region, a situation that worries him a lot.

“This year, the Ministry of Health has assigned five qualified doctors trained. None of the five responded to their message. One came to tour some health facilities, and on his return to Accra, it was the end, ”he said.

He explained that even after doing several follow-ups at the Ministry of Health in Accra to recover the doctors, it still did not yield results.

The ministry, he added, however explained that it would not repost any doctor refusing an assignment.

“We went to the Minister of Health to do some investigations and the assurance was that they would not repost them. They will insist that they come to the North East region, but if they decide like this that they are not going to serve in the public sector, there is not much they can do, ”he said. .

In 2014, Dagbon’s regent, Kampakuya-Naa Andani Yakubu Abdulai, expressed similar concerns over the refusal of doctors to visit the area, stressing that people in rural areas also deserve quality health care.
