NEW DELHI: About a year after its unveiling at the company's last annual general meeting, Reliance Industries is expected to launch Jio GigaFiber services soon, according to a report. Reliance Jio GigaFiber, based on fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) technology, is a combo service that combines broadband, fixed and television connections. Just like Reliance Jio, which in three years has become India's leading mobile phone operator, Jio GigaFiber is also expected to disrupt the market with its cheap price plans.
The commercial launch of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) fiber services is expected to be announced at the August 12 AGM RIL, according to a report recently published in The Hindu.
After announcing its decision to install the FTTH network for its broadband services in 1,600 Indian cities, Jio has not yet announced its tariff plans. The telecommunications operator is conducting tests and offers pre-project offers for a few months.
Reliance Jio GigaFiber broadband, television, landline plan:
Reliance Jio GigaFiber will offer broadband speeds of 1 gigabyte per second (gbps), 600 TV channels and a fixed connection – all for a monthly subscription fee of only ₹600, Mint had said before.
As indicated on its website, Jio GigaFiber packages will be available as prepaid and postpaid options.
Jio users will also be required to pay a security deposit of ₹4,500 to obtain the ONT (GigaHub Home Gateway) device provided by the operator. The deposit will be refunded if the customer decides to stop using Jio GigaFiber services.
The ONT device will act as a router for broadband service.
What is offered now:
Reliance Jio is currently using a broadband preview plan that offers ultra-high speed internet speeds of up to 100 Mbps free for a limited time. Under the preview offer, there is no installation fee, but a refundable security deposit of ₹2500 for the ONT device.
Jio Gigafiber speed:
Reliance Jio promised that its broadband service would offer a minimum speed of 1 Mbps up to 1 Gbps. A recent investigation report has already proclaimed Jio GigaFiber as India's leading Internet service provider in terms of throughput. In February 2019, the speed index report from Netflix Internet Service Provider revealed that Reliance Jio GigaFiber was operating at a speed of 3.61 Mbps.
Reliance Jio recently asked MyJio users to suggest the name of their broadband service. Users have three options: JioFiber, JioHome and JioGigaFiber.
