The Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority (GPHA) held a farewell parade in honor of retired Colonel William Kwablah, director of port security who is retiring from active service at the port.
Port security guards put on impressive and skillful slow and fast marching demonstrations to entertain management, staff and the cross section of the public who were part of the congregation to honor the outgoing port security director.
Tema Port Manager Ms. Sandra Opoku congratulated Colonel Kwablah for his dedication and commitment to GPHA’s service as Port Security Manager since April 1, 2020.
Ms. Opoku said there had been a lot of challenges during her tenure; they always discussed and got the best solutions, which worked well for the port, adding that the professionalism of the port security manager made it easy to select problem information for quick action to defuse them.
Col Kwablah commended the management and staff for the support which has contributed to the success and improvement of port security while leading the port security service.
He said he took office with the aim of improving the image and reputation of the GPHA security department, noting that this has been largely achieved through the establishment of discipline at all levels, strengthening intellectual capacities, better management of resources and improvement of equipment and infrastructure.
“These initiatives have resulted in the upgrade of the CCTV system, the continuous process to improve staff strength and the current efforts to improve staffing services at our doors with automated scanning systems, among others,” a- he declared.
He suggested that his successor continue to lead the ongoing transformation process within the ministry and make it an entity that management can count on at all times.
