Renault has appointed Jean-Dominique Senard, Michelin's CEO, as Chairman of the Board following the departure of Carlos Ghosn.

On Thursday, two months after his arrest in Japan for financial irregularities, Ghosn stepped down as CEO and chairman.

However, rather than appointing a person to both roles, Renault has chosen to split the responsibilities of CEO and President.

The Board appointed Michelin Past President Senard as President and Ghosn's former Deputy Thierry Bolloré as General Manager.

The new chairman of Renault's board of directors will, in addition to all the functions normally performed by Renault's chairman of the board of directors, evaluate and, if necessary, modify the governance of Renault to ensure transition to the new structure.

"He will present his proposals on the evolution of governance to the board of directors before the next general meeting of shareholders.

"In addition, the Renault Board of Directors wishes to actively supervise the operation of the Alliance and decides to entrust its Chairman with the responsibility of managing the Alliance on behalf of Renault, in liaison with the Chief Executive Officer."

Senard will have "full responsibility" for managing the alliance with Nissan and Japanese automaker Mitsubishi, while Bolloré will be responsible for Renault's operational activities.
