Renowned KNUST researcher reported dead

The management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) expressed its shock at the death of Professor George Kuffour, a renowned researcher and ardent defender of traditional medicine.

Professor Kuffour was, until his death, Head of the Department of Pharmacology and former Head of the Department of Herbal Medicine, KNUST.

He was the principal toxicology researcher for many research institutes including the Food and Drugs Authority of Ghana.

“Management is deeply saddened by his loss, with his wealth of experience in training pharmacists in Ghana,” Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe, academic relations manager, told the Ghana News Agency.

University officials say Professor Kuffour died of heart complications after being rushed to Komfo Anokye University Hospital at dawn on Friday, February 5.

It is believed that the complications caused by Covid-19.

Dr Bekoe said the late Prof. Kuffour had participated in the training of traditional medicine practitioners across the country and the West African sub-region.

He called on the media to “refrain from making a splash about his death and to give his family some privacy.”
