The Trans World Airlines flight center from JFK International Airport has been a landmark in New York for decades.
Designed by Eero Saarinen and opened in 1962, the iconic structure has remained abandoned since 2001, the year of the bankruptcy of TWA.
It was officially declared a New York Historic Monument in 1994 and registered on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
The terminal is about to reopen to become a 512-room luxury hotel, offering six restaurants, upscale shopping, a vintage airplane turned lounge bar, a rooftop infinity pool and a sun terrace. ;observation.
There will also be 50,000 square feet of event space – including a 15,000-square-foot ballroom – and a 10,000-square-foot fitness center.
The TWA Hotel opens on May 15, 2019.
