According to Harry Talbot of Football Insider, Everton would have "opened talks" with Danny Welbeck and could fight against Newcastle United for his signing this summer. The 28-year-old should leave Arsenal at the end of his contract and will be available for free transfer. Everton is looking for a center forward and may have found the ideal candidate for Welbeck.
The English international joined Arsenal from Manchester United in 2014, scoring and creating 47 goals in 126 appearances in all competitions. Welbeck fell in the hierarchy after struggling for form and play time at the Emirates Stadium. This season, he has played only 14 appearances, the last against Sporting CP in the Europa League on November 8.
Welbeck has spent the last six months away from an ankle injury and is not close to signing to extend his decision to stay at Arsenal. Although the artillerymen have spent £ 16 million for his signing in 2014 and £ 32.5 million in wages over the past five years, they seem willing to let him go for nothing in the next few weeks, which is good news for Everton.
The Toffees have to choose only Cenk Tosun, Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but Welbeck could give another dimension to Marco Silva.
