Reshuffle to hit the EC headquarters, several officials must be rebadigned

Mr Eric Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission (EC), announced that there would be a reshuffle at the Commission's headquarters.

He added that the restructuring will entail the transfer of personnel and the creation or realignment of departments and units.

In an interview with Citi News, Mr Bossman also explained why he had become the spokesperson for the EC, despite the presence of communications officers at the Commission.

"The commission has undertaken several review activities and I can even say with authority that as soon as possible; at most within three months, we should have a communication unit that works well. "

He added that the restructuring was expanding beyond the communications department.

"Same [when] you go to the computer, supply, legal [departments] – There are several places we are looking at. Some of our results will be made public so that you have complete information, "he said.

Speaking about the status of the current communications officer of the Commission, Eric Dzakpasu, Mr Bossman said: "Dzakpasu is a deputy director, as I am speaking to you now. His deputy is still there. He is also an officer. All are workers on the ground. "

The Electoral Commission announced last month that it will soon establish a new register of voters for the 2020 general elections.

The decision to establish a new register of electors was made after a stakeholder meeting under the aegis of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC).

In 2015, the Election Commission (EC) rejected the proposals for a new voter register, calling it an "unconvincing" appeal.

He concluded this after holding a forum after a heated national debate on the register after the opposition party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) then claimed to have evidence suggesting that it had been compromised with 76,000 non-Ghanaian voters.
