Respect Judicial Oath, Judge Adinyira Says Judges

Accra, July 30, GNA – Justice Sophia Ophelia
Adjiriba Adinyira, a judge of the Supreme Court on Tuesday instructed the judges to stick to the
judicial oath ensuring that justice is done in all cases
the direction and the keeping of the lawyers to respect the deadlines.

They should not allow judges to delay trials
needlessly deny justice to people because some lawyers sometimes come to court
unprepared and request an adjournment, inter alia to the detriment of their
customers.

She was talking at her farewell ceremony
(withdrawing from active service) held at the Supreme Court in Accra on
Tuesday.

Judge Adinyira said some lawyers waste
the time and money of their clients by seeking minor legal points to the Supreme Court.
By neglecting the underlying case pending before the court of first instance, this
she said that judges should take note.

She regretted that the members of the
may not provide adequate legal services through legal aid to the
poor and marginalized in society.

Ms. Adinyira said what she would miss most
now that she had bowed out would be, joy on the faces of the marginalized
and vulnerable people who win their lawsuits against all odds.

She thanked the members of the Bar for their
tolerance offered him during his 45 years of service in the administration of
justice and members of the judiciary for their support.

Justice Sophia A.B Akuffo, Chief Justice

Judge Adinyira joined the bench of judges as high
Judge of the Court in September 1989, appointed Judge at the Court of Appeal in 1999 and
the Supreme Court in 2006.

She served as a judge at the United Nations
Tribunal (UNAT), New York and Geneva, President of UNAT, Vice President of the UN
Court of Appeal.

Judge Adinyira began her career in 1973
Deputy Attorney and has so far received awards, including one
national award for his contribution to improving the destiny of the
Ghanaian child of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Childhood.
