My favorite vacation spot is any place with an ocean and a beach – the natural playground of God created to have fun in the sun. And during the summer vacation at the beach, families can learn about cleaning and conservation of the oceans.
Oceans cover 71% of the planet and are home to important species and ecosystems on which humans rely to feed, make a living, control the climate, travel, relax and so much more.
Whether you visit Myrtle Beach, the Outer Banks, Cape Cod, Daytona Beach, Malibu Beach, American beaches are buzzing with summer activities. Whether traveling by plane or cruising to the Bahamas or other island nations of the planet Earth, beaches abroad are full of tourism and adventure.
"On World Oceans Day, the people of our blue planet celebrate and honor the ocean, which connects us all." Every year in June. www.worldoceansday.org.
A healthy global ocean is essential to our survival. World Oceans Day offers a unique opportunity to honor, contribute to the protection and conservation of the oceans of our world. The ocean is important because it: generates most of the oxygen we breathe; helps us to feed ourselves; regulates our climate; cleans the water we drink; offers a pharmacopoeia of medicines; and provides unlimited inspiration.
The Ocean Project helps lead the global promotion and coordination of World Oceans Day. This aquatic initiative advances conservation in partnership with aquariums, zoos, museums and youth. Since 2002, The Ocean Project has also been the world leader in promoting and coordinating the World Oceans Day, which brings the world together in June and multiplies actions throughout the year.
For 2019, the theme "Together We Can" focuses on what we can all do together to create a healthy ocean and a better tomorrow. Millions of people have virtually partnered around the world to show their support for protecting our shared ocean.
More than 800,000 members and activists in more than 200 countries have already joined Oceana – the largest international organization focused solely on ocean conservation.

Congratulations to the youth
The World Oceans Day Youth Advisory Council, made up of 24 members aged 16 to 23 from 20 different countries, provides unique new perspectives, ideas and recommendations to bring the world to our ocean. With year-round commitment, Board members help shape the development of World Oceans Day by inspiring actions, large and small, that offer opportunities for ocean conservation 365 days a year.
Teach children the oceans

A new illustrated book, co-edited by the Commonwealth, aims to educate children about the minerals of the seabed and the consequences of their exploitation by deep-sea mining. "Treasures of the Deep" tells the story of three friends who descend into a submarine in the depths of the ocean, where they discover exotic ecosystems and rich mineral deposits on the seabed … raises questions about the balance between exploitation and conservation and asks the reader to consider all the elements. www.thecommonwealth.org.
