A new NASA study shows that more than half of astronauts returning from space are returning home with the reactivated herpes virus.
The researchers think that it is because of all the stress that the astronauts undergo: zero gravity, cosmic radiation and separation of the beings who are dear to them.
The more they stay in space, the more viruses can reactivate.
Once herpes is present in your system, it never goes away, it just goes dormant and can wake up anytime.
Most of the astronauts had no symptoms and their reactivated herpes virus was detectable only by medical tests.
Nevertheless, they could infect other people and scientists worry about other negative health effects that could have an extended time in the space.
