Mbadive inscriptions for national identity cards have taken off in the Greater Accra region, but not without difficulties.
The exercise began Monday morning and is expected to continue until July 6th. It will then be extended to other regions.
But the day 1 of the exercise was sown with pitfalls related to the demands of the exercise.
Ken Attafuah is the Executive Director of NIA
A visit by Nancy Emefa Dzradosi of JoyNews to a registration center in Abossey Okai, Accra, revealed that many residents do not have some important documents requested by the National Identification Authority.
"I do not have a birth certificate, so I was repressed," said a resident.
Another resident who spoke said that he did not have a digital address; which is also a requirement for the national identity card (Ghana map).
We want them to review their requirements and accept other documents, such as other national identity cards, said a disappointed resident in Twi.
Emefa reported, however, that some residents had successfully completed the process. One man had no documents, but she got bonds as required by the NIA, she reported.
NDC campaign
The National Democratic Congress (NDC), an opposition party, had expressed concerns about this requirement in 2018.

The party argued that many Ghanaians do not have a pbadport or birth certificate, which is the basic requirement. They argued that the identity of voters should be added to the requirements.
The NIA, however, maintained its motives, forcing the NDC deputies to boycott the exercise as it unfolded in Parliament.
Digitize the economy
The Ghana map is part of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's promise to digitize the economy.
This map should serve as a central database for the informal sector to integrate into the tax network.
Akufo-Addo promised to make sure the cards are issued when he was campaigning to become president in 2016.
