Richard Bowker will be stepping down as President of UK Athletics after 18 months in this position.
The presidency, aged 53, was the subject of a vote of no confidence from the federations of the four countries of origin last week.
This was due to be voted on at the 12-person UK Athletics Council meeting in February.
"UK Athletics has made significant progress under Richard's direction," said Sarah Rowell, Acting President.
"The board of directors is very sorry to see him leave office at that time, but given the recent decisions he has taken in the presidency, the progress made in the areas of talent, the competition and training over the next few years will be the true legacy of his term. "
Bowker will leave the organization on January 31, 2019.
