Ridge Hospital praised for effective management of Covid-19 cases

Deputy Health Minister Alhaji Asei Mahama Seini on Thursday congratulated the Greater Accra Regional Hospital for effectively managing the first two confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Ghana in March 2020.

He said the facility, also known as Ridge Hospital, had shown “heroism” in this endeavor.

“The government duly recognizes the crucial roles played so far by this facility, public health experts, dedicated Covid-19 centers, all health facilities, civil society groups, businesses and the general public. in the ongoing fight against the coronavirus, ”Alhaji Seini said at the hospital’s 15th anniversary launch in Accra.

The anniversary, which will take place in the middle of next year, is themed: “Providing Quality Health Care – The Role of a Modern Public Health Facility”.

The deputy minister said Ghanaians should continue to remember that the world has not yet come out of the woods regarding the mutation and spread of the coronavirus.

He reiterated the call to citizens to respect safety protocols such as strict hand washing with soap under running water, wearing face masks in public spaces, using alcohol-based disinfectants and respect for social distances.

He expressed the government’s commitment to fight the pandemic and achieve universal health coverage and said the government’s One District, One Hospital (1D1H) project was actively underway across the country to make real sense of the provision of accessible and quality health care.

Alhaji Seini urged hospital management and staff to continuously improve patient wait times, client-staff relationship, and patient satisfaction and safety in order to strengthen its status as a medical tourism hub for the region. sub-region.

He called on them to ensure the constant availability and efficient use of essential medicines, improve treatment outcomes and the appropriate use of information and communication technologies (ICT) to manage patients and patients. medical records.

The hospital’s medical director, Dr Emmanuel Kobla Srofenyoh, said that since its expansion in 2016, the hospital has set up a corporate expedited service unit and put in place measures to meet the growing demand. quality health care in the region and beyond.

He said the hospital had also set up a bed management office with the appointment of a bed coordinator to address the “bedless syndrome” problem.

“We have so far been accredited by the Healthcare Facility Regulatory Authority to operate as a tertiary healthcare facility and have also implemented an efficient and central emergency system, making the hospital a major destination for emergency referrals in the city, ”Srofenyoh said.

He said that despite the achievements over the past four years, the hospital is facing a high demand for service with inadequate logistics and called for support from stakeholders.
