Rio Ferdinand does not think Manchester United should allow Mason Greenwood to leave the club on loan next season.
The 17-year-old scored two goals in three appearances during United's pre-season tour of Australia and Southeast Asia, including Saturday's winner against Inter Milan.
His performance on the bench against the Nerazzurri led Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to compare his career trajectory to that of Ryan Giggs.
Solskjaer himself said that he did not envision that Greenwood is leaving the club on loan and Ferdinand agrees with United's manager that the teen is ready for more opportunities next season. .
After Greenwood shared a series of photos on Instagram of United's win against Inter, Ferdinand commented: "The way to let management know that you're ready for the season's games – ready .. …. naaaaaah !! "
Greenwood made his full debut for United in his last Premier League match of last season and Solskjaer has already virtually confirmed that he would be part of the first-team group.
"The child is only 17 years old and he is learning every day to train with these boys," said Solskjaer after United defeated Inter. "He has been with us for a few months, he has grown in confidence, he has grown up and, as I have already said, when there are successful players, it is difficult to exclude them.
"But we have to keep our feet on the ground with him, he's only 17, he's going to have some ups and downs, but he loves his football.
"Mason never thought of sending on loan. He's a man we have to keep at home, keep him and play against him when we feel that he's good for him and for the moment , he is fine."
