17, GNA – Traffic accidents between January and February of this year, 411 dead

He said at
Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview on the sidelines of a regional conference
consultation meeting on the use of motorcycles and tricycles for commercial purposes
held in Sunyani that road safety rules should be applied for
to minimize accidents.
The Ministry of
Transport in collaboration with NRSC, Police Motto Traffic and Transport
Ministry (MTTD) and the Technical Inspection Authority (DVLA) for vehicle drivers
organize the national consultation meeting.
He was badisted
by traditional authorities, civil society organizations and
District Assemblies to collect views and suggestions for
legalize the use of machinery for commercial purposes.
Article 128 (1)
of the traffic regulation of 2012, LI 2180, prohibits the use of tricycles
and motorcycles to carry paying pbadengers.
But the NRSC
fears that this practice has become common in Ghanaian society and
causing nuisance on the road.
Mr. Adonten said
this year, the country recorded 108 accidents involving tricycles and
motorcycles and deaths were also high.
Superintendent
Alexander Kwaku Obeng, Director of Education, Research and Training
at the headquarters of the MTTD in Accra, noted that because of the economic value of
tricycles, it was difficult for the police to continue the
users.
