The 91st Academy Awards will be held in less than a week and, although the focus is currently on the controversies surrounding the Oscars rather than the nominees, the conversation will change after the ceremony. The main objective of the Oscars is to pay tribute to the artists and technicians who worked hard to create a cinema that will remain cherished for years to come. Also this year, five actors had outstanding performances to be nominated in the Best Actor category.

Among the best actor nominees this year are Bradley Cooper for A Star Is Born, Rami Malek for Bohemian Rhapsody, Viggo Mortensen for Green Book, Willem Dafoe for At Eternity's Gate and Christian Bale for Vice.

In my opinion, Bradley Cooper is a leader in this category this year. Cooper played Jackson Maine, a famous country singer, in A Star Is Born. His character is struggling with alcohol when he meets Lady Gaga's ally and is plunged into an infernal spiral throughout the story of the film. Bradley's rugged beauty, combined with his excellent vocals, makes you believe why anyone like Ally would fall in love with him.

In an exceptional scene in the film, when Jack apologizes to Ally for embarrbading him, Cooper's offers one of the best scenes he has ever presented and it's even more remarkable since he himself directed the movie. Facing Lady Gaga in singing is not a joke and Cooper managed to share the stage with her, and that too, convincingly.

Rami Malek's performance for Bohemian Rhapsody has received many honors, including the Golden Globe and BAFTA, and he is likely to win the Oscar this year.

Bohemian Rhapsody has been widely criticized for his faint narrations, but the only motive on which the film stands is Malek's performance as singer of Queen's band Freddie Mercury. Since the first appearance of his character, visual resemblance has made people talk. In the film, Malek plays Freddie as an eccentric musician, but also exploits his emotional side.

The physical transformations, especially the teeth, are a little annoying at first, but one gets used to it when Malek raises an otherwise weak scenario.

Among the other nominees, even though Viggo Mortenson has presented a good show as Tony's 'Lip'. in Green Book, he was probably excluded from the race by saying the N keyword when promoting the film and given the current scenario, the academy is not likely to pat him in the back.

Christian Bale has undergone another physical transformation to play Dick Cheney in Vice, but this year too, he will miss the coveted trophy. Willem Dafoe has also been nominated for playing Vincent van Gogh in At Eternity's Gate.

The 91st Academy Awards will be held on February 24th.
