The academy is struggling to capture as many people as possible when it airs. In the face of the debacle of public relations, which they find it hard to get out of, the prestigious prize nominees are getting lost in some way.
The Oscars are devoted to the celebration of the cinema and, although it remains to be seen what will be the subject of discussion after the television broadcast of February 24, the films must be cherished.
The awards season began in early 2019 and, to this day, there are clearly pioneers who stand a good chance of winning the coveted Oscar statuette. Here are the ones leading the price race up to now:
Best movie – Rom or Green Book?
In the best film category, Alfonso Cuarón's Roma seems to be the favorite who could potentially win the Oscar. Roma has already won first prize at the Critics' Choice Awards and BAFTAs. Green Book also appears strong in this category, starrer Viggo Mortensen having won this honor at the Golden Globes (comedy or comedy), the Producers Guild of America Awards and the National Board of Review Awards.
Other Oscar nominations in this category also include Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Favorite, A Star is Born, and Vice.
Best actor – Rami Malek or Christian Bale?
The performance of Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury accelerated him in the circuit of the rewards since the actor has already won important prizes for the same thing. Malek won this honor at the Golden Globes (drama), Screen Actors Guild Awards and BAFTA. Christian Bale is a serious candidate because his performance in Vice, starring Dick Cheney, earned him the highest distinction at the Golden Globes (musical or comedy) and the Critics' Choice Awards.
Bradley Cooper (A Star is Born), Willem Dafoe (At the Door of Eternity) and Viggo Mortensen (Green Book) are the other nominees in the category.
Best Actress – Glenn Close or Olivia Colman?
This year, it seems that this category belongs to Glenn Close for his performance in The Wife. The actor has already won the Best Actress Award at the Golden Globes (drama), the Critics' Choice Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Olivia Colman's performance in The Favorite also receives numerous awards. Colman has already won the Golden Globe (musical) and the BAFTA.
Other nominees also include Yalitza Aparicio for Roma, Lady Gaga for A Star Is Born and Melissa McCarthy for Can You Ever For Over, to forgive?
Best director – Alfonso Cuarón?
Alfonso Cuarón seems to be the one who will most certainly win the prize for best director at the 2019 Academy Awards for his Spanish film Roma. Cuarón has almost missed everything since he won the Golden Globe, the Critics' Choice Award and the BAFTA.
In addition to Cuarón, the nominations include Yorgos Lanthimos for The Favorite, Spike Lee for BlacKkKlansman, Adam McKay for Vice and Paweł Pawlikowski for Cold War.
The Oscars will be held on February 24 and will be broadcast live around the world.
