Samuel Ayeh-Paye said that the payment of the road toll could be replaced by an additional increase of GHp1
The chairman of the Special Parliamentary Committee on Roads and Transport called for the abolition of the payment of road tolls and in the country.
Samuel Ayeh-Paye said that the payment of the road toll could be replaced by an additional increase in GHp1's energy tax, which would make it possible to pay for the tolls collected at the country's toll booths.
The member for Ayensuano riding in the Eastern Region made the call in an interview with Yen Sempa of Onua FM, hosted by Bright Kwasi Asempa on Friday.
Mr. Ayeh-Paye commented on the accusations made by the Minister of Roads, Kwasi Amoako-Atta, to officials of the toll on the roads in the country, even demanding that the ministers of state take it
"I heard people coming to the booths and they said that I was general manager or something else, so they pbaded. All collectors of toll stations in this country have been informed that every individual in Ghana, no matter who you are, you have to pay tolls, if you are a minister you have to pay, if you are a general manager, you have to pay. I am now Minister of Roads by the grace of God. Wherever I go, you can ask my driver to pay my toll, "the minister told the media on Thursday.
Mr. Ayeh-Paye said, "Tolls are creating traffic. More than 50% of road tolls do not enter the road fund, but if we could add a single pesewa to the energy charge and remove all the toll stations, that would help. "
He added: "This will also help eliminate waste in the collection of road tolls."
"Once you go to the licensing office to make your way and buy gasoline, you pay the road toll," said the MP.
He also suggested that, elsewhere, "the road toll is similar to prepaid credit and should not look like what we have in Ghana. We can also do it now thanks to the digital addressing system ".
