ROBOFEST World Contest winners meet MTN Ghana

Accra, June 08, GNA – Winners of 2019
ROBOFEST World Contest, Girls Methodist High School Girls
Mamfe Akuapem visited MTN Ghana to show appreciation of the telecommunications sector
company for its support during the competition.

Students who have visited MTN with their
coaches and director, presented two trophies won during the competition for
Mr. Selorm Adadevoh, Managing Director of MTN Ghana.

The team won the victory in the
competition, which has been hotly contested by six countries: Japan, the United States, Mexico,
Korea, China and South Africa.

The contest, which was held in Michigan
in the United States of America, presented a platform allowing candidates to
robots to organize boxes according to a given binary number. The binary number
was unveiled when all the robots were impounded.

Mr. Adadevoh stated that the company was happy to
know that his support for the team had been very beneficial and had allowed them to
the ultimate winners emerge.

He said that the world was going through a lot of
technological progress, hence the need for individuals to apply technology
to things of fundamental value to their lives.

He gave badurance that the company
continue to provide support through its foundation in different areas, in particular
education, which was one of its core values.

The MTN Ghana Executive told the company that robotics is a function of
education that needs support and attention like other areas like health
promotion and economic empowerment.

He said that the Foundation has seen robotics as
another way for Ghana to participate in the industrial revolution, from where
the need to help young people gain skills in the area.

The Foundation, he said, would undertake
measures to improve the skills acquired by girls in robotics.

Mr. Ben Amoah, one of the coaches said that
competition was difficult, especially with the countries involved as
students from other schools knew the material, which was
part of their programs.

He repeated that the students were facing
challenges from the preparation phase to the competition and
called the ministries of education and communication to add robotics to the
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education Program
world was now in the era of the industrial revolution.

It is unfortunate that the equipment of the team is not enough.
compared to those used by their competitors, however, which
discourage them from giving the competition a good fight.

He expressed gratitude to their coaches who
steered their steps and encouraged them to do their best.
