The Minister of State in the President's Office, Rockson Bukari, resigned from his post a few days after being caught on a tape that was attempting to bribe a journalist for the "kill" article.

According to a presidential statement, Bukari presented his letter of resignation to President Akufo-Addo on Monday, April 29, 2019.

According to his statement, his decision to resign was "in order not to allow the band to disrupt the government's attention to the execution of its mandate".

Rockson Bukari was filmed to try to prevent Starr FM Upper East's correspondent from publishing a damning article against a Chinese mining company while he was minister of the Upper East region.

Mr. Bukari tried to bribe the journalist with 5,000 GH ¢ in a brown envelope and a new motorcycle to prevent the publication of this story.

The regional minister was rebadigned to the presidency when the report made headlines in 2018, but after it reappeared about a week ago, Bukari failed to convince Ghanaians that he tried to make peace and not to corrupt the journalist.

The statement from the president's office indicates that Rockson Bukari "has resigned in principle".
