The Rolling Stones have postponed their tour of the United States and Canada to give singer Mick Jagger time to receive medical care, announced Saturday the veteran rock band.

"I am devastated by the postponement of the tour, but I will work very hard to get back on the scene as soon as possible," Jagger said on Twitter, without providing more details.

"I'm so sorry for all our fans in America and Canada with tickets. I really hate to let you down like that. "

Fans quickly responded to his message, wishing him good luck.

The 75-year-old rock star should recover completely, said the group's publicist.

"The doctors have informed Mick that he should recover completely so he can get back on the scene as quickly as possible," the publicist said in a statement.

The North American tour of the band was to take place from April 20 to June 29.

The Stones have already had to cancel sold-out concerts, like in Las Vegas in 2016, when Jagger contracted laryngitis.

Some mishaps of solo guitarist Keith Richards, co-author with Jagger of hits such as "Satisfaction" and "Brown Sugar," have also resulted in show postponements and cancellations over the band's 50-year career.

The group had to cancel concerts in 1990 when Richards became infected and the beginning of a European tour was postponed until 1998 when he fell from a ladder to his home. Some 2006 shows were also delayed when Richards fell off a coconut tree while he was on vacation.
