Gattuso acknowledged that Rome was the best team in the standings, although he was happy that Milan improved his performance in the first half, where he was dominated despite a break in the break.

"Roma deserved more things in the first half, but I think we came out in the second half and we played well," Gattuso told Sky Italia.

"Maybe on points, the Roma could have deserved more, but they are a great team with immense talent and I knew it would be difficult.

"The Roma have quality and physics, so we suffered a bit, but I'm happy with the performance, as I said, I recognize that Roma probably deserved a little more, but I really liked the performance in the second half, we played well.

"Our first half was very bad, while in the second, we messed up many promising opportunities by making bad choices or bad pbades, the spaces were there and we did not find them."

Roma head coach Eusebio Di Francesco remains under pressure after the organizers failed to get the rebaduring victory they needed after the Coppa Italia's 7-1 humiliation Wednesday against the Fiorentina.

"It's a pity we need a slap before we find our way," he said after watching his team control the game following Piatek's goal in the 26th minute.

"We would have clearly deserved the win with this performance and it was only a few days after Florence." It was a positive response to Florence, but even three crucial points would not have made amends for Wednesday.

"The guys have shown character in the circumstances and I hope this is another starting point for reaching the next level."

The South Curva section of Roma support organized a half-time strike to protest poor recent performance.
