Nico Rosberg encouraged Sebastian Vettel to recover from his poor form, saying it is "only a phase".
Ferrari's Vettel status remains uncertain after its latest mistake at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
The German lost control as he competed for Lewis Hamilton's position – his fifth mistake of this type in the last 13 races.
"It's only a phase that Sebastian is going through," Rosberg said.
"It's a sport that all athletes have to face – where things do not always go as planned," added the 2016 world champion, who has won 23 grand prizes and has climbed the podium 57 times during his 10 years of career in F1.
Vettel has not managed to win a race for nearly eight months, his last win being in Belgium. If he fails to win in China on the weekend, his losing streak will extend to 11 races.
Vettel admitted that he was "not happy" with a "tough race" in Bahrain, while he was overtaken by teammate Charles Leclerc in his second race for Ferrari at of his second season of F1.
But Rosberg is confident that Vettel will recover from his poor form. "You have to get out of this phase and Sebastian is four-time world champion, so I'm sure he'll be able to handle that," he said.
"He must once again enter a positive spiral and all that is needed in Formula 1, it 's a good race, so if he wins in China, he' s going away. "
Vettel is currently fifth in the standings with 22 points. Leclerc is fourth with 26 points.
Sunday's Chinese Grand Prix is the third race of the season.
