FALL RIVER – Rose Anna Desmarais celebrates her 100th birthday. She was born in Fall River on March 25, 1919 to immigrant parents from Quebec, Canada, who were part of a family recruited to work in the factories of New England. She was one of 11 children. His father, Louis G. Desmarais, was a proud man who provided his family with multiple jobs, including repairing looms in the cotton mill. He also contributed to the physical construction of the Blessed Sacrament Church, where the family attended both the church and the school.
Desmarais worked in the mills with his brothers and sisters and finally married his lover, William Spear, who has since died. They met and worked at the famous Har Lee Dress factory. She then worked at Stella Ann Frocks where she was a forelady. She held this position until her retirement. She was then invited to become a hostess at the Boule Funeral Home in Fall River, where she worked for more than 25 years, retiring at the age of 93.
