Suffering from her worst year as a monarch, the queen faced several scandals in 1992, including the separation of the Prince of York from his wife and the publication of Princess Diana's book. In Diana's book, she talked about her former husband, Prince Charles's affair with Camilla Parker Bowles. She writes, "Diana's popularity was phenomenal, but it was not the first time the nation, or the whole world, fell in love with a beautiful royal princess.
"When the madness around Diana was at its peak, one of the queen's courtiers said," Madam, you have never seen anything comparable to the advertising that Charles and Diana do. "
"You were not there," she said, "when Margaret and I made sure that our future husbands would have remarkable talents for us."
