His Majesty married Philip in 1947, after which the duke renounced his Greek and Danish titles five years before the beginning of his reign. Shortly after her marriage to Philip, royal expert, Ingrid Seward revealed the touching words the Duke has written about his new wife. In her book, My Husband and Myself: The 70-Year History of the Royal Wedding, Ms. Seward revealed that Lilibet, as he called it, was a true love.
Referring to Philip's words, Mrs. Seward wrote: "Lilibet is the only thing in the world that is absolutely real to me and my ambition is to train in a new combined existence."
"Prince Philip, aged 26, wrote to his mother-in-law two weeks after his marriage on November 20, 1947.
"It had to be the project of their life together and, what was the depth of his pbadion at the time, he went to develop his theme."
Welcoming now the last member of the royal family, Philip and the Queen anticipate that generations of royals will be born during their marriage that will last more than 70 years.

However, getting married at such a young age forces Philip to end a promising career in the Navy.
Now, the Duke has retired in 2017, at the age of 96, after decades of service.
Following this decision, the Duke decided to move to Wood Farm Cottage located on the Sandringham Estate.
However, as he was writing at the time of his marriage, Philip again professed his love for his wife, although the two now live apart.

He wrote, "Cherish Lilibet?
"I wonder if this word is enough to express what is in me.
"Do we like his sense of humor, his musical ear or his eyes?
"I'm not sure but I know that I thank God for them and so, very humbly, I thank God for Lilibet and for us."
Although he retired from his royal duties, Philip joined his wife at the wedding of Lady Gabriella Windsor in May, her last appearance.
