Journalists and others may be required to pay minimal processing fees before receiving any information under the Right to Information Act, according to the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, in charge of Government Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior. ; Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah.
"For example, the agent needs some information from the express. He may be asked to pay something as small as 5 cents. 00 or GH ¢ 10.00 as a processing fee, "he revealed in an interview with MyNewsGh.com on Hello FM in Kumasi.
The RTI is supposed to be a fundamental human right guaranteed by the Constitution and recognized as such by the international conventions on human rights
According to Suame's lawmaker, after the president signs his signature for the bill to become law, it will be binding on private and public institutions serving the public interest to disseminate information.
The majority leader also explains that the full implementation of the law will, however, protect some information that one seeks from any institution, especially when it is concerned about the security of the nation.
"All information will not be communicated after asking them in writing," the Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu added.
Last Monday, Parliament pbaded the Right to Information Bill, which will be implemented in January 2020 and still needs to be approved by the President.
The RTI Act will provide for the implementation of the constitutional right to information held by the public and certain private institutions, subject to the necessary derogations compatible with the protection of the public interest in a democratic society.
It also aims to promote a culture of transparency and accountability in public affairs and to resolve related issues.
