Niko Kovac will stay on like Coach of Bayern Munich, club president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed.

Kovac have led Bayern to their first DFB-Pokal title since 2016, as Robert Lewandowski's double and Kingsley Coman's stunning strike beat RB Leipzig 3-0.

Rummenigge insisted on Friday that the future of Kovac is not in doubt, whether Bayern has succeeded or not in Berlin, and he has now reaffirmed this position.

"Of course, Niko remains the coach, this has never been discussed," Rummenigge told Fox Sports.

"We have never asked ourselves the question: winning prizes is important for Bayern Munich and the coach plays a central role in this.

"For us, he never doubted that he would continue to coach. The team was great today."

With this win, Kovac became the first coach to win two consecutive DFB-Pokal titles after Eintracht Frankfurt's win over Bayern in the 2017-18 final.

"I am obviously very happy," he said at a press conference. "Leipzig made it very difficult for us and did not leave much room for us.

"But with time, we found it easier, and I would like to congratulate Manuel Neuer, in particular, for his sensational performance."
