The cap – Stuart Baxter Friday resigned as Bafana Bafana The head coach put an end to a second period of turbulence at the helm of the men's national team.
Baxter was appointed on May 4, 2017 and signed a five-year contract until June 2022 with a mandate to guide Bafana Bafana to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
After reading a statement prepared by Russell Paul, CEO of SAFA, Baxter confirmed that he was retiring with immediate effect.
"Someone should continue this project and as a result, I am resigning my position as head coach of Bafana Bafana," said Baxter.
"It was my personal decision to resign."
"I think I can not continue working with the professionalism and pbadion required, as I have done, and manage the many issues related to this program.
"I have chosen not to point fingers in the past and I will not do it now, and although it would have been better for me personally to blame others, I've tried to recognize what I could do to change the situation level of integrity. "
SAFA had previously confirmed that Baxter had not submitted a performance report on the African centerpiece and had instead headed immediately to Sweden on vacation.
The 65-year-old, however, has a bad record at the helm with a winning ratio of only 38% after 21 control matches.
He also guided his team to the quarter-finals of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where Bafana qualified for the round of 16 placing third overall.
After a 1-0 clash against Egypt in the last 16 games, many had felt that Baxter had been saved from the bag after being criticized by the public and the media.
On their return from the CAN tournament at SA, at a lively press conference, an ardent Baxter almost dared to challenge the senior executives of SAFA.
"I have no problem leaving this job.Do not confuse me with a coach who is desperately looking for a job," Baxter said.
"I am not a desperate trainer who says: please, do not turn me off, please."
