Rwandan opposition group coordinator in South Africa, Seif Bamporiki, killed in Cape Town

• Coordinator of the National Congress of Rwanda in South Africa, Seif Bamporiki, was shot dead while delivering a bed to a customer.
• Etienne Mutabazi of the Rwanda National Congress confirmed the death to News24.
• No one was arrested.

The coordinator of the Rwanda National Congress (RNC) in South Africa, Seif Bamporiki, was shot dead in Nyanga on Sunday evening, the congress announced on Monday.

A party spokesperson told News24 that Bamporiki was murdered on Sunday evening.

Etienne Mutabazi of RNC said: “We can confirm that our comrade was murdered. We are in mourning. We are aware that in every fight there are sacrifices and as Rwandans we know that we are alone in this. world.”

Mutabazi said he was with Bamporiki on Saturday and was shocked to learn of his death a day later.

Mutabazi, said Bamporiki owned a small bedding store in Nyanga. A customer bought a bed from his store and took a colleague to deliver it. When they got to the client’s home, two men approached them and started shooting.

The attackers took cell phones and a wallet before fleeing the scene.

It is understood that no arrests have been made.

Police spokesman André Traut said a murder case was under investigation.

“The circumstances surrounding a murder are being investigated by Gugulethu police, following an incident yesterday afternoon around 4:20 p.m. in the Europa squatter camp where an adult male (age unknown ) was shot. It is alleged that the deceased and another man, aged 50, were delivering a bed to the area when approached by two unknown suspects. The deceased was pulled from his vehicle and shot dead, while the 50-year-old man accompanying him managed to escape unharmed. The suspects, who have not yet been arrested, fled with the deceased’s vehicle, “Traut said.

Bamporiki was an active and dedicated member of General Kayumba Nyamwasa’s RNC, Mutabazi said.

Over the weekend, he participated in a ceremony in which party members and supporters remembered those who lost their lives.
