(Reuters) – Irish airline Ryanair announced Tuesday that its Portuguese-based pilots had voted in favor of a work contract for the next four years.

The agreement governing wages and working conditions was negotiated between Ryanair and the Portuguese Union of Pilots, SPAC, to cover all the pilots directly employed by the company in Portugal, the carrier announced.

Ryanair has been fighting labor relations since it's bent on the need to recognize unions for the first time almost a year ago.

The airline said in October it had reached an agreement with its Portuguese pilots on seniority and basic issues, seeking to end a series of damaging strikes that had harmed its operations.

He stated that the Portuguese agreement – covering issues such as allocation and promotion of leave – would allow discussions with the PSPC Portuguese union on a full collective agreement.

Meanwhile, Ryanair said on Tuesday that pbadenger traffic rose 9 percent to 10.9 million in March.
