The alleged thieves used what is suspected to be a corrosive chemical to weaken the base of the tower and removed the bolts and nuts that supported it before using a hacksaw blade to cut the base of the tower, causing it to collapse on a second tower paired with it in a parallel line.

A similar attempt was also made on other transmission towers.
