Liverpool came back to the top of the Premier League standings with a 2-1 victory over Fulham on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp's men recovered first place in Manchester City – in action in the FA Cup this weekend – thanks to the efforts of Sadio Mane in the first half and the penalty of James Milner.

The Senegalese international Mane is in top form for the Reds, with 11 goals in his last 11 games in all competitions.

At a point in the season when Mohamed Salah struggled to find the net, Mane took the lead, including his double in the Champions League win against Bayern Munich.

His efforts at Craven Cottage were a little more routine than his first exquisite efforts in Germany, but they proved no less important.

Mane celebrates the score

And this allowed Mane to score the most goals in the Premier League season by a Senegalese player in the history of the competition.

The ex-Southampton man scored his 17th goal of the campaign, surpbading Demba Ba's record (16) for Newcastle in 2011-12.

Mane's efforts also brought Harry Kane, Piere-Emerick Aubameyang and team-mate Salah into the gold-coin race.

The quartets are all tied in second place, behind only Sergio Aguero of Manchester City.

Salah could have gone up to 18 if he took the penalty that Milner had struck to give Liverpool the win.

On this subject, Jurgen Klopp said after the match: "Mo also scored penalties, but when Milly is on the pitch, I think it makes sense that he's in charge," said the boss of the Reds.

"Doubts, not really, but even Milly is a human being and he can fail, but he is very good."
