CEO of Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah
The government delegation that went to Dubai to negotiate the release of Menzgold 's chief executive, Nana Appiah Mensah, aka NAM1, has returned to Ghana today without him.
The delegation, made up of Deputy Attorney General Joseph Dindiok Kpemka, a representative of the Bureau of Organized Economic Crime (EOCO), the National Research Office (BNI) and National Security has returned by plane to the United Arab Emirates to negotiate the extradition of the Menzgold after his arrest.
The extradition attempts of Dubai's NAM1 have been considered a daunting task, as Ghana has no extradition treaty with the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
NAM1 who is a wanted man in Ghana for defrauding under false pretense is in custody in Dubai and is facing criminal charges.
An Accra circuit court issued a warrant for arrest last week, but a police press release said NAM1 had already been arrested in the UAE's capital city (UAE). December 7, after "a deal on gold gone bad".
The reports indicate that the government delegation will issue an official statement on Monday, January 21, 2019 to make public what happened in the UAE.
The Deputy Attorney General, in an interview with Top Story on Joy FM, said the government was determined to bring NAM1 to justice and that it would not rest until this happened.
The main mission of the delegation was to "try to reach an agreement with the UAE government to ensure that it is brought back to Ghana to face justice".
This approach does not seem to have borne fruit since the delegation arrived in Ghana today without NAM1.
