Ghana’s First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo rejects the government’s proposed new wage deals amid public outcry.
The statement signed by its communications director, Korkor Bleboo, says:
“People laced the public discussion with extremely negative opinions, she finds them very unpleasant.
“They describe me as a selfish person who doesn’t care about the ordinary Ghanaian.”
As a result, she explains, “she decided to repay all the sums they paid her as compensation from the date Prez took office.
It is “circa January 2017 … amounting to 899,097.84 Ghc”.
According to the press release, Ms. Akufo-Addo made no request to receive compensation.
Instead, “she was only given what exists to already be attached to a status, albeit informally.
Salary of the First Lady of Ghana: Background
The payment of salaries to first and second ladies arouses public anger among some Ghanaians.
Some people think the government is spending taxpayer dollars in the wrong place.
According to the proposed arrangement, the first lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, will collect 21,000 Ghc ($ 3,500) per month, we are retrograde until 2017.

The government adopts the recommendations of parliament and then approves.
