Public hearings begin Tuesday as part of the public inquiry into the tainted blood scandal in the UK.
Thousands of patients with hemophilia and other NHS coagulation disorders reportedly became infected with HIV and hepatitis viruses through contaminated blood products in the 1970s and 1980s .
Martin Beard discovered that he was HIV-positive at the age of 17 and was told that he had only two years left to live. He describes living "a dark and very difficult time" at the height of the stigma surrounding HIV.
The investigation began in September 2018 and is expected to hear the testimony of many affected people.
