Spain marks twice to defeat Malta at the Ta'al Qali stadium

It was still going to be a David vs. Goliath match – a star Spain against a Maltese side that had spent 13 years without a win at home before last weekend.

And it was one-way traffic from start to finish, with Spain in possession of the ball and barely allowing Malta to score a single goal in the second round of the Euro 2020 qualifiers. The home fans were in top form, packing Ta 'Qali Stadium and ousting Spanish captain Sergio Ramos every time he received the ball.

After half an hour late, Spain managed to get out of the stalemate after Alvaro Morata, the attacker of Atletico Madrid, had recovered a center to escape the ball slipping in the hands of the Maltese keeper Henry Bonello.

Morata then doubled the lead in the 72nd minute with a powerful header after a perfect cross from Jesus Navas.

A few minutes later, howls sounded from the crowd when Michael Mifsud found himself head-to-head with the goalkeeper but in an offside position.
