Norwegian takes victory in the men’s slalom at the end of the 2021 FIS Cortina Alpine World Championships in Italy.
Sebastian Foss-Solevaag broke his country’s long wait to become the first Norwegian men’s slalom world champion in 23 years.
Tom stiansen was the last Norwegian to win the event, in 1997.
Henrik Kristoffersen, also from Norway, came third, with Adrian pertl from Austria finishing second in the last race of the Cortina 2021 Championships.
Norway were in good shape at the end of the second leg business in Italy, after a format change.
Two-time Olympic medalist Kristoffersen took the lead with five riders to go.
Olympic bronze medalist Foss-Solevaag then passed his teammate to take first place and victory.
Austrian newcomer Adrian pertl stormed into second place with the final round of the championships.
“I wasn’t expecting this result when I woke up this morning … I’m really happy,” he said on the official broadcast.
Kristoffersen finished third overall.
Foss-Solevaag were already world champions in 2021 after Norway won the team event.
The changing conditions have grabbed a lot of top contenders.
America’s hopes of a podium finish were in tatters with the two Jett seymour and Luke Winters failing to complete their second run.
