Detainees set fire to part of a prison in southwestern Cameroon to protest their imprisonment for secession, secession, rebellion and terrorism.
Security forces fired shots and tear gas to restore order in the Buea City facilities on Tuesday. We do not know yet if there are any victims.
A video showing the smoke that escaped from the prison amidst the sounds of repeated gunshots was shared online.
This week, a riot also erupted in a prison in the capital, Yaounde, following a protest by detainees accused of participating in the English-speaking separatist rebellion.
More than 1,000 people have been arrested in connection with the conflict that has displaced more than half a million people since its outbreak in the country's English-speaking regions in 2016.
