A former security guard of the State Enterprise Commission was sentenced to two years in prison by the Accra Court of Justice for threatening to kill the Commission's president, Mr. Stephen Asamoah Boateng.

The convicted Arafat Issah pleaded guilty to a death threat and was sentenced for his own cause.

Issah allegedly sent an SMS to Mr Boateng to ask him for money, warning him that he would kill him if he refused to send money.

"All I need is 500 GH ¢. If you do not do it, you will be killed or your family. Remember, do not tell anyone, "read the text message in the facts.

Forgive me

Earlier, Issah had pleaded with the court to forgive him, and added that he had regretted his actions.

In sentencing, the presiding judge, Ms. Rita Abrokwah Doko, stated that the accused was a young man and a primitive offender who was to have a second chance.

Flight and threat

The prosecution told the court that in March 2018, a person broke into Mr. Boateng's office at the State Enterprises Commission in Accra and stole his laptop and cell phone.

On April 5, 2018, Issah sent an SMS to Mr. Boateng and acknowledged that he had stolen the laptop and the phone.

According to the prosecution, Mr Boateng asked the accused to return the laptop and the phone, but Issah told him that he had already sold them.

"Issah continued to call Mr. Boateng but he was largely ignored," the prosecution added.

According to the prosecution, on April 10, 2018, Issah then sent the threatening text messages to Mr. Boateng.

Mr. Boateng officially filed a complaint with the police. Investigations resulted in the arrest of Issah in Kenyase.
