The Ministry of Railway Development, in collaboration with the Ghana Railway Company Limited, announced the timetable for the Accra-Tema rail service that was launched on Tuesday, January 29 in Accra.
The shuttle has a multi – unit diesel (DMU) train that can seat 360 people, with enough room for dozens of others at a cost of 5 GHC per pbadenger. It is powered by onboard diesel engines and does not require separate locomotives because the engines are incorporated in one or more cars.
According to the Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah, the service will be free for two weeks before starting to operate commercially.
According to him, the "free route" is to get residents to join the Accra-Tema train service, which he describes as a cheaper alternative to the capital's commercial buses.
The train will leave Community 1 Station at 6:00 am daily and will make stops at Tema Fishing Port, Tema Harbor Station, Asoprochana Station, Nungua Gate (mile 11), Addogonno (mile 9), at Batchona station, at the airport, at Abelenkpe. Achimota Station, Odaw Station (Circle) before arriving at Accra Central Station at 7:30.
Later in the day at 17:40, he will leave the Central Station of Accra for Tema. He will make stops at Odaw (Circle), Achimota, BatchonaStation, Asoprochana, Tema before stopping at Community 1 at 19:22.
