Seidu links: apologize or sue – NAPO to Sammy Gyamfi, Kwame Zu

The lawyers of Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, wrote to Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), an opposing party, requesting a retraction of what they described as defamatory comment. A similar letter was also sent to Mr. Kwame Zu, NDC regional secretary for the Ashanti region, on the same subject.

At a press conference held on Thursday, June 13, Gyamfi reportedly stated that there was a "link" and a "relationship" between Dr. Opoku Prempeh, commonly known as NAPO. [Nana Poku] and Seidu Yakubu, also known as "MBA", one of the accused at the time of the abduction of the two Canadian women in Kumasi on June 4, 2019.

"The badociation between Seidu and the NPP is more than remarkable." However, lawyers, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah and Partners, insist that "the aforementioned statement is not only false, but malicious, since Seidu said that he is not a shopping boy" of Dr. Opoku Prempeh.

They argued that Mr. Gyamfi's statement was a suggestion of Dr. Opoku Prempeh to tolerate and badociate people suspected of committing the crime of kidnapping and attempted to badign to "inappropriate conduct of our client relationships with people you call thugs".

"Therefore, the aforementioned false and malicious statement suggests that our client is a promoter and a beneficiary of the brutality," says the letter.

Kwame Zu

Mr. Kwame Zu, NDC regional secretary for the Ashanti region, reportedly made the statement during a radio interview with Okay FM, based in Accra, on Thursday, June 13, 2019.

"The boy [Seidu] is a known member of the NPP who works with the Hon. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, "said Zu in an interview with the radio.

"Our client categorically denies this false and malicious statement, and this statement was clearly malicious and aimed at damaging the reputation of our client, respectable member of Parliament and Minister of the Republic of Ghana."

"In spite of your malice, our client is magnanimous enough to offer you the opportunity to make amends, so we ask our clients to demand" the withdrawal of the statement and an apology without reservation.

The lawyers notified that they had received instructions to initiate legal proceedings against both of them they did not honor the requests within 48 hours.
